Families of Victims of the Syrian Revolution to establish an association to be the voice of Justice and Accountability
Istanbul, Turkey – The Association for the Defense of the Victims of the Syrian Revolution (ADVR) announced today that it would hold a large conference in Istanbul, Turkey on February 8-9, 2014. The conference, held in cooperation with the newly established Syrian Commission for Transitional Justice, will include the participation of a large number of family members of victims of the Syrian conflict. At the meeting, attendees will discuss the establishment of the association and ways to assure Justice and accountability. Additionally, the Syrian Commission for Transitional Justice will seek feedback from conference participants regarding their hopes for future transitional justice and national reconciliation programs in Syria.
Mohammed Zaher Shehab, an Assocation for the Defense of the Victims of the Syrian Revolution member, who lost seven from his family members in bombarding by Asad security forces on his town Darayya, stressed the importance of his organization’s efforts, saying “As politicians and diplomats gather in Geneva, it is important to ensure that the victims of the Syrian conflict continue to have a voice to speak on accountability and justice. This conference will make that those voices are heard loud and clear.”
The Association for the Defense of the Victims of the Syrian Revolution works to inform the Syrian people and the world at large of the great price the Syrian people have paid in their fight for freedom and dignity. It seeks to foster a new era of accountability in Syria.
